Michael Sheehan has worked in the mechanical - industrial engineering industry for 15 years, applying fire protection engineering and applicable codes and standards nationally. After achieving a B.S. and M.S in mechanical and fire protection engineering at the Worchester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts, Michael worked as a licensed engineer alongside the company National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) a company that have facilitated the continual needs of fire protection and life safety.

In 2009, Michael founded SLS Consulting, Inc. and focused on providing fire protection and life safety consulting services to the A/E/C and development community in South Florida. With a focus on a holistic approach, in not only the development of a code compliance approach but with emphasis on ensuring the implementation of design a code compliance through the transition to occupancy of each project. Since inception, SLS Consulting, Inc., has worked on hundreds of projects of ranging complexity and size both nationally and internationally.

Michael is a licensed Fire Protection Engineer with the ability to communicate effectively, openly and honestly with all project stakeholders in the best interest of the project’s life safety objectives. He appreciates and understands the value of different professional backgrounds and has created a team of multi-disciplinary professionals ranging from licensed architects, engineers, contractors and former fire department personnel, all with the ability to solve any problem or situation whether administrative or technical.

Chris Shirar, R.A.

Christopher Shirar, RA has worked in the architectural and construction planning industry for 25 years and is a Vice President at SLS.

As Director of Project Management for SLS Consulting, Inc., Chris oversees all projects during the Design Phases by managing the design team, consultants, and clients from the conceptual phase through projects construction document phase and subsequent permitting efforts.

Chris is a licensed State of Florida Architect and a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, NCARB. His skill set in quality control and assurance with code compliance reviews, problem-solving demeanor, and analytical mindset is what makes him a valuable asset to SLS Consulting, Inc. and its clients.

Hollis J. Leary III

Hollis J. Leary III has worked in the construction industry for 30 years in various roles and capacities ranging from carpenter to General Superintendent to Director of National Operations.

As Chief Operating Officer and the Director of Construction at SLS Consulting, Inc., Hollis oversees all projects during the Construction Phases by managing the construction development team, consultants, on-site inspectors, and clients from the construction document phase through the projects closeout phase.

Hollis's leadership has been beneficial in SLS Consulting, Inc. growth strategy nationally. His skill set in on-site management during construction with code compliance approaches and ability to maneuver successfully through project conflicts is a strength Hollis has exercised throughout his career and within SLS.

Michael Nicoletta, AIA

Michael Nicoletta is a licensed architect with over 30 years of experience and working as a Life Safety / Building Code Consultant for over 20 years. His experience in architectural design and project management, coupled with extensive knowledge of the local, state and international Building Code requirements has gained him local and international recognition as an expert in code compliance evaluations and design approaches. Michael is adept at synthesizing information from multiple sources to create, articulate, and implement planning and project management strategies to improve project efficiencies and alignment of goals and expectations between all project stakeholders.

Michael has worked as an office Director for Hughes Associates, Inc., managing top Fire Protection Engineers who are experts in their field, providing compliance evaluations and design approaches on prominent national and international projects. With his architectural background and the understanding of the client’s design vision, Michael has developed alternative approaches to code compliance by identifying options that not only would provide a higher level of life safety compliance but ultimately would maintain the integrity of the design intent.

Michael has served as a member of the AIA-New York City Department of Buildings Reorganization Committee. He was involved in the AIA-New York Build Committee and has served as an advisory expert on the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council – Model Code Technical Subcommittee. Mr. Nicoletta has also served on the NYC Department of Buildings Fire Prevention Systems Technical Committee and currently serves on the New York City Code Revision, Use, Occupancy and Egress Technical Committee.

Andrew J. Thul, P.E.

Andrew Thul’s responsibilities include being involved in all aspects of design operations and production activities for the firm’s complete range of technical fire engineering and code consulting work. Andrew provides solutions to complicated fire protection engineering and building code based design problems. He has a record of managing sophisticated and multi-faceted design and engineering projects teams to successful completion.

Andrew has managed and participated in projects in multiple vertical markets. He maintains a specialized focus on projects in Higher Education and Healthcare while also working on substantial projects in Hospitality, Assembly, Retail and Mixed-Use developments, as well as Manufacturing, Industrial, Storage Occupancies. His work also includes evaluation of and engineering in Hazardous Occupancies/Materials/Process.
